Abstract

Objective: To evaluate of the quality of life after pancreaticojejunostomy for chronic pancreatitis. Subject and method: Retrospective study of cases of chronic pancreatitis undergoing pancreaticojejunostomy from July 2018 to July 2021 at 108 Military Central Hospital. Evaluation of preoperative clinical characteristics: Age, gender, BMI, epidemiological factors, associated diseases, postoperative complications, pain severity, and quality of life before and after surgery based on the VAS scale (0 - 10) and the EORTC QLQ-C30 questionnaire. Result: Surgery was performed on 38 patients. The mean age: 49.9 ± 13.06 years, men/women: 2.8, alcoholism (34.2%), diabetes (31.6%). Post-operative complications: Bleeding (2.6%), pancreatic fistula (2.6%), wound infection (5.3%). Preoperative and postoperative scores: VAS (4.58 ± 1.73 and 1.53 ± 0.86), the mean physical function domain: 19.63 ± 6.44 and 11.42 ± 1.46, physical domain: 17.42 ± 3.49 and 11.18 ± 1.20, emotional domain: 10.34 ± 1.79 and 6.53 ± 0.95, social domain: 8.37 ± 1.36 and 4.37 ± 0.94, general health: 5.08 ± 1.28 and 10.03 ± 1.05. Conclusion: Pancreaticojejunostomy for chronic pancreatitis is a safe and effective method that significantly improves the patient's quality of life.
