Acute myocardial infarction in patient without cardiac risk factors during general anesthesia

Abstract
Perioperative major cardiac complications such as myocardial ischemia is rare but is associated with very high mortality and morbidity. Perioperative myocardial infarction (PMI) often occur in patients with risk factors after high-risk surgery. The patient described here suffered acute myocardial infarction (AMI) without any cardiac risk factors during the emergence from general anesthesia after a low-risk surgery. Close monitoring of the hemodynamic parameters and the ST segment is mandatory requirement for recognizing such complication. Quick decision making is necessary for rapid diagnosis and treatment to increase the chance of survival.
