Study on clinical feature and existence of Staphylococcus aureus in nodulocystic acne lesions

Abstract
Objective: Investigate clinical features and determine the ratio of Staphylococcus aureus in acne lesions of nodulocystic acne in National Hospital of Dermatology and Venereology from August 2017 to July 2018. Subject and method: 111 patients were diagnosed with nodulocystic acne, in which 63 patients were consulted and agreed to test latex culture in the lesions at the Medical Examination Department of National Hospital of Dermatology and Venereology from August 2017 to July 2018. Method: A cross- sectional study. Result: In one year, there were 40.813 patients who were diagnosed with acnes actually ask for a treatment. Among them, there were 10.547 patients that were diagnosed with nodulocystic acne, accounting for 25.84%. Females more susceptible to nodulocystic acne (50.4%), which is higher than the figure of males (49.6%), and they were mostly at the age of 14 - 24. The proportion of cases with Staphylococcus aureus in nodulocystic acne lesions was 23.8% (severe nodulocystic acne makes up 30.4%, and nodulocystic acne make up 5.9%). Conclusion: Nodulocystic acne is a common skin disease in the 14 - 24 age group. The role of Staphylococcus aureus in lesions is still a matter of debate in Vietnam and around the world.
