Abstract

Objective: To assess the early outcome of 3D versus 2D laparoscopic surgery in right colon cancer. Subject and method: Retrospective, descriptive study. Result: 113 right colon cancer patients had radical laparoscopic surgery, including 52 patients with 3D surgery and 61 patients with 2D surgery. The duration of 3D surgery was shorter than 2D (115.6±26.1 vs 136.5 ± 27 minutes), blood loss during surgery (11.5 ± 6 ml vs 12.1 ± 7ml), the number of dissected lymph nodes (14.9 ± 4.7 vs 15 ± 3.2 nodes), time of passing gas were 3 vs 3,5 day, time of postoperative hospital stay were 7 vs 8 days and postoperative complication rate were 3.8 % vs 4.8%. Conclusion: 3D laparoscopic surgery for right colon cancer requires a shorter duration of surgery than 2D laparoscopic surgery. There was no statistically significant difference between the two methods in term of blood loss during surgery, the number of dissected lymph nodes, time of passing gas and postoperative hospital stay as well as postoperative complications.
