Abstract
Summary
Objective: To describe the current situation of non-selective beta-blockers (propranolol, nadolol) using in cirrhotic patients with portal hypertension. Subject and method: Patients diagnosed with cirrhosis are being used non-selective beta-blockers with the purpose of preventing complications at Bach Mai Hospital from June 2018 to June 2019. Result: 177 patients, male: 88.7%, female: 11.3%, mean age: 55.7 ± 10.2 years old, average dose of propranolol: 40.2 ± 64mg, 75.7% of regular using drug, mainly patients quit drug by themselves (83.3%), reaching the treatment target: 27.1%, failure to reach treatment target: 72.9%, the average time of the first gastrointestinal bleeding appearance was 26 ± 24.4 weeks. Conclusion: Frequency of drug using of patients is high; the rate of achieving treatment goals is low; there was a related between the rate of gastrointestinal bleeding and the compliance with drug using with p<0.01, OR = 0.3, CI 95%: 0.16 - 0.17.
Keywords: Beta-blocker, gastrointestinal bleeding.
