Abstract

Objective: To describe the clinical characteristics of infant food allergy treated in the Vietnam National Children’s Hospital from June 2014 to June 2015. Subject and method: Cross-sectional descriptive study of 86 children diagnosed food allergies treated in the Immunology - Allergies Department was collected. Skin prick testing, skin patch test, stimulant stimulation test is performed. Result: The prevalence of children with a history of food allergy was twice (79.1%). Symptoms occurred less than 1 hour after exposure to food: 59.3%. The clinical manifestations of food allergies in children are varied and age-related. The symptoms of skin and gastrointestinal tract were the most common, and the same proportion was 88.4%, other organs showed less: Respiratory system (44.2%), full body (15.1%). The gastrointestinal symptoms of the < 6 months old group accounted for 94.9%, 83.0% higher than the ≥ 6 months old group. < 6 months old (5.1%), p<0.05. The prevalence of eating before 6 months is high: 84.9%; the family history of allergies was 72.1%. Conclusion: Food allergy has the most common clinical manifestations in the skin and digestive tract, especially after 6 months of age when children begin to eat solid foods.
