Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the plasma CRP changes in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and to investigate the association of plasma CRP levels with clinical and laboratory characteristics. Subject and method: 122 patients with RA and 51 healthy subjects were examined for clinical characteristics, plasma CRP levels and serum TNF-α levels. Result: Mean plasma CRP levels the in RA patient group was 2.56 ± 2.81mg/dL versus the heathy group was 0.12 ± 0.12mg/dL with p<0.01. Mean serum TNF-α was 15.32 ±  7.37pg/mL. There was a correlation between plasma CRP concentration and swollen joint count, tender joint count, erythrocyte sedimentation rate, DAS28 ESR and DAS28 CRP. There was no correlation between plasma CRP levels and serum TNF-α levels in RA patients. Conclusion: Plasma CRP levels in rheumatoid arthritis patients were associated with swollen joint count, tender joint count, erythrocyte sedimentation rate, and no association with serum TNF-α levels.
