Abstract

Objective: To determine the prevalence of the lipoprotein lipase (LPL) rs320 polymorphism and its associated factors in patients with hypertriglyceridemic acute pancreatitis (HTGP), and to assess the association between this polymorphism and clinical as well as biochemical characteristics. Subject and method: A cross-sectional descriptive study with comparison was conducted on 24 patients with HTGP (triglycerides > 11.3mmol/L) and 24 patients with acute pancreatitis without hypertriglyceridemia who were treated at Can Tho Central General Hospital from 2024 to 2026. Venous blood samples were analyzed using PCR and Sanger sequencing to identify the rs320 polymorphism of the LPL gen. Clinical and laboratory data were collected from medical records and analyzed using SPSS software with appropriate statistical tests. Results: the TT genotype was significantly associated with an increased risk of hypertriglyceridemia-induced acute pancreatitis (OR = 6.333; 95% CI: 1.751 – 22.912, p=0.005). Triglyceride levels were also significantly higher among individuals carrying the TT genotype (p=0.047). In addition, females showed a higher frequency of the TT genotype than males (p=0.036). Conclusion: The LPL rs320 polymorphism, particularly the TT genotype, is a genetic associated factor for hypertriglyceridemic acute pancreatitis and may be useful for early identification of high-risk individuals to guide personalized preventive strategies.
