Abstract

Objective: This study aims to evaluate the outcomes of incontinent urinary diversion after radical cystectomy, specifically using ileal conduit and ureterostomy. Subject and method: A retrospective study was conducted on 86 patients who underwent radical cystectomy followed by incontinent urinary diversion at Chợ Rẫy Hospital between 2018 and 2022. Clinical, pathological, and postoperative data were collected. Patient satisfaction and quality of life were assessed using the Stoma-QoL scale. Result: The median follow-up period was 15 months. Early complications occurred in 39.5%, with a 3.5% incidence of severe complications. Late complications were observed in 33.7%, with the most common being urinary tract infections. Quality of life, as assessed by the Stoma-QoL, was favorable, with a mean score of 61.6. Patients with ileal conduit demonstrated better self-care abilities compared to those with ureterostomy. Conclusion: Incontinent urinary diversion methods, particularly ileal conduit, offer a safe and effective alternative for elderly or high-risk patients who are not suitable candidates for bladder reconstruction.
