Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the results of liver transplantation for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients at Viet Duc University Hospital. Subject and method: Prospective study of 24 HCC patients underwent liver transplantation at Viet Duc University Hospital from November 2007 to November 2016. Result: There are 22 male, 2 female patients with average age of 53 (38 - 74). 95.8% of the patients were with chronic hepatitis B. 54.2% were within Milan criteria, while 45.8% were exceeding Milan criteria, with average number of tumor were 2.8 (1 - 5), and average diameter of 43.9mm (13 - 84). Early results: Mortality rate is 12.5% (3 patients), morbidities including: Pleural effusion 75%, bleeding 8.3%, bile leakage 4.2%, hepatic artery thrombosis 4.2%, hepatic vein stenosis 4.2%. The overall 5-year survival rate is 70.8%. Conclusion: Liver transplantation is efficient to treat early staged HCC patients.
