Preliminary result of treatment of hypertriglyceridemia with intravenous insulin therapy in patients with acute pancreatilis at Hai Phong Medical University Hospital

Abstract
Objective: Initially to evaluate the results of treatment of hypertriglyceridemia with intravenous insulin therapy in patients with acute pancreatitis at Hai Phong Medical University Hospital. Subject and method: A cross-sectional descriptive study on 30 patients with acute pancreatitis due to hypertriglyceridemia treated as inpatients at Hai Phong Medical University Hospital from August 2023 to August 2024, study subjects the study was divided into 2 groups with and without intravenous insulin infusion. Result: Mean age was 45.6 ± 15.0 years. Abdominal pain, constipation and abdominal distension, vomiting and bloating were common, with abdominal pain occurring in 100% of patients. There was no statistically significant difference between symptoms and the rate of complications of hypoglycemia and hypokalemia between the 2 groups (p>0.05). There were a difference with (SE: 1.42, 95% CI [-2.91; -0.81]) between the number of days with TG reduction rate < 5.6mmol/l in the 2 groups, the number of days of fasting, using antibiotics, reducing gastric acid secretion and the total number of days of treatment between the 2 groups. Stable treatment results reached an average of 90%. Conclusion: Initial evaluation of the results of treatment of acute pancreatitis due to hypertriglyceridemia found that it was effective in reducing triglycerides and did not increase complications of this therapy.
