Validation of the Vietnamese Version of the Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease - Health-Related Quality of Life (GERD-HRQL) Questionnaire

Abstract
Background: Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is one of the common gastrointestinal disorders that significantly affects the quality of life (QoL) of patients. Objective: To translate, culturally adapt, and evaluate the GERD-HRQL questionnaire, investigate the quality of life (QoL), and identify factors related to the QoL of patients with GERD. Subject and method: The original English version of the GERD-HRQL questionnaire was translated and adapted to produce a Vietnamese version following the Principles of Good Practice Guidelines for the Translation and Culturally Adaptation Process. The reliability of the questionnaire was determined by using Cronbach's coefficient alpha. Result: The Vietnamese version of the GERD-HRQL questionnaire maintained the original structure, consisting of 17 questions divided into 3 sections. Cronbach's alpha of Vietnamese version of GERD-HRQL questionnaire was 0.874. Conclusion: The Vietnamese version of the GERD-HRQL questionnaire can be considered a suitable tool for surveying the QoL of patients with GERD in Vietnam.
