Abstract

 Organ transplantation was started from 1954 with a kidney transplantation, in the years following progresses of technologies and immunosupressive drugs, number of organ transplantation and number of recipients have been increasing rapidly. Particulary with the lung transplant to mid-90s of the last century, the number of new increase markely. According to the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation, up to now there are about 241 centres for lung transplantation worldwide.


 Today, lung transplantation has become a viable treatment option for patients with a variety of end-stage lung diseases. This article aims to introduce the history of lung transplantation, its achievements, challenges; in particular the successful preparation and implementation of the first lung transplantation from donor after brain death in 108 Military Central Hospital.
