Abstract
Objective: To investigate the changes in left atrial strain, left atrial stiffness index in heart failure (HF) patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) and the relationship with NT-proBNP levels. Subject and method: 116 HF patients included 58 patients with AF (HF+AF group) and 58 patients without AF (HF-AF group) treated at 103 Military Hospital from February 2023 to June 2023. The patients had NT-proBNP test and echocardiography measured the left atrial strain and left atrial stiffness index. Result: Left atrial reserve strain (LASr) in the HF+AF group was significantly lower than the HF-AF group (8.3 ± 3.1% vs. 17.3 ± 11%, p<0.001). The left atrial stiffness index (LASI) in the HF+AF group was significantly higher than the HF-AF group (2.5 ± 1.2 vs. 1.5 ± 2.1, p=0.002). In the HF+AF group, LASr was negatively correlated with NT-proBNP levels (r = -0.44, p = 0.048), LASI was positively correlated with NT-proBNP levels (r = 0.84, p=0.033). Conclusion: LASr decreased and had a negative correlation with NT-proBNP levels in HF patients with AF. LASI increased and had a positive correlation with NT-proBNP levels in HF patients with AF.
