Abstract

Objective: To describe the motivation of oral health care at home and some related factors of 10th class pupils at Hermann Gmeiner Internationnal School. Subject and method: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 151 10th class pupils at Hermann Gmeiner International School in 2024. Pupils were surveyed and responded by online surveys. Result: The proportion of pupils exhibiting good motivation to take care of their oral health at home was 69%. Motivation was influenced by internal and external factors. The internal motivation factor with the highest average score was: It is a natural part of daily life with 4.23 ± 0.89 and the smallest average score was: I feel frustrated if I don't have oral hygiene with 2.95 ± 1.04. The external motivation with the highest average score was: I want the dentist to be satisfied with my dental cleaning with 3.20 ± 1.03. 9.5% of students didn’t clearly see the meaning of dental care at home. There was a close relationship between good knowledge of dental care and good motivation to take care of teeth at home (OR = 2.66, 95% CI: 1.13-6.29). Conclusion: Motivation of pupils for dental care at home was limited, and a small percentage of them were not aware of the meaning and role of oral care practice at home.
