Abstract

Objective: This study aimed to update the Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) antibiotic resistance status over recent years. Subject and method: A total of 350 H. pylori strains were isolated from gastritis, peptic ulcer, and gastric cancer patients at 108 Military Central Hospital from 2019 to 2022. Antibiotic susceptibility tests were performed using the Epsilometer (E-test) technique. Result: The resistance rates to AC, CH, MZ, LE, and TC were 30.6%, 44.6%, 44%, 33.4%, and 9.14%, respectively. The rates of double-, triple-, quadruple-, and quintuple-antibiotic resistance among isolates were 33.1%, 15.1%, 4.3%, and 0.9%, respectively. The highest dual resistance rate was CH+MZ (19.7%), while the lowest was MZ+TC (4.9%). The strains showed a high level of resistance (MIC ≥ 256μg/mL) to CLR, 69.87% (109/156), MNZ, 73.37% (113/154), and (MIC ≥ 32µg/mL) to LE, 85.47% (100/117). MIC for AC and TC were low in most isolated strains. Conclusion: Most strains showed extremely high-level resistance of MZ, LE, and CH, while low-level resistance of TC and AC suggested that quadruple therapy including tetracycline/amoxicillin should be considered as an alternative strategy.
