Abstract
Objective: We assessed drug-related problems (DPRs) of statins among type 2 diabetes outpatients at a tertiary hospital in Ho Chi Minh city. Subject and method: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 250 outpatients diagnosed with type 2 diabetes aged 40-75 years from February to April 2024 at Nguyen Tri Phuong Hospital. Data was collected from prescriptions, electronic records, and direct interview of patients to analyze DRPs using the ViMedÒ tool by clinical pharmacist, then approved by cardiologist. Result: The prescription rate of statins was 87.6% with moderate-intensity accounted for most of the sample (93.6%). The proportion of drug-related problems of statins was 57.2%. Treatment monitoring, dosage and missing indication were the major problem categories (55.5%, 20.8% and 16.2%). Rate of physicians’ acceptance was 96.5%. Patients with LDL-c > 2.5mmol/L were 2.2 times more likely to have statin drug problems (p=0.013). High-intensity users showed fewer drug problems (p<0.01). Conclusion: The utilization of statins remained suboptimal, especially in monitoring treatment, drug dosage and missing indication.
