Lung transplantation, brain-dead donor

Abstract

Since the first successful isolated lung transplant performed by Dr. Joel Cooper at the University of Toronto in 1983, lung transplantation has been considered an optimal therapy for multiple causes of end stage pulmonary disease. In Vietnam, the first double-lung transplantation from brain-dead donor was performed in 108 Military Central Hospital in February 2018. This success was the result of a multidisciplinary cooperation of many specialities, in which surgery played an indispensable role. This article analysed surgical aspects of this operation for giving some primary experiences in lung transplantation and organs transplantations in Vietnam.
