Abstract
Objective: Survey on knowledge and practice of prevention in periodontitis patients who are being treated at Stomatology Department, 108 Military Central Hospital. Subject and method: A cross-sectional descriptive study of 309 patients were diagnosed with chronic periodontitis. All patients underwent clinical examination and participated in answering a questionnaire. Diagnosis of chronic periodontitis based on the guideline of American Academy of Periodontology (1999). Result: The age group over 60 was predominant (60.5%); the proportion of male and female patients were almost the same, respectively 50.5% and 49.5%; toothache and mobility were the two main symptoms that cause patients to come to the doctor with the rate of 56% and 50.2%, respectively; the number of teeth lost increased with the time of periodontal disease, the period of periodontitis over 5 years had 47.9% lost 4 teeth, while the loss of 1 tooth was mainly seen in patients with periodontitis. less than 1 year with 14.1%; the number of patients who think that they should go to a dentist every 12 months was still high: 53.1%; the majority of patients used toothpicks after each meal: 79%, the majority of patients rinsed their mouth after each meal: 92.6%. Conclusion: The number of missing teeth increases with the duration of periodontal disease, it is necessary to improve knowledge related to risk factors, symptoms, and preventive measures to reduce the incidence of periodontal disease.
