The result of endoscopic intragastric balloon for obesity treatment at Trieu An Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City

Abstract
Obiective: To evaluate the treatment effectiveness and safety of intragastric balloon for obesity treatment at Trieu An Hospital in Ho Chi Minh city. Subject and method: Patients aged 18-60 years old. BMI ≥ 30kg/m2 with combination: High blood presure, diabetes, dyslipidemia... or BMI ≥ 35kg/m2. Parameters to be monitored: Age, gender, clinical features, weight, BMI, comorbidities... Materials: Orbera and Spatz balls. Parameters to monitor: Weight, BMI and % of excess body weight lost (EWL) and side effects-complications after treatment. Result: Technically: Technical success reached: 72/72 patients (100%). Clinically: Weight before treatment: 93.5 ± 19.8 (kg), after 6 months of treatment: 76.5 ± 19.1kg (p<0.01). BMI before treatment: 35.3 ± 4.8kg/m2, after 6 months of treatment: 28.7 ± 4.9kg/m2 (p<0.05). Side effects: Abdominal pain (100%), nausea (73.6%), persistent vomiting (83.3%). Complications: Gastroesophageal reflux diseade: 49/72 patients (68%). There were 2/72 patients (2.8%) have stomach ulcers. Conclusion: Intragastric balloon is a highly effective method of treating obesity. Safe technique, few complications.
