Clinical features and treatment outcomes of ano-perianal tuberculosis through 15 cases in Viet Duc University Hospital

Abstract

Objective: To describe the clinical features and treatment results of perianal tuberculosis. Subject and method: 15 patients confirmed ano-perianal tuberculosis based on histopathological associated with microbiological results in Viet Duc University Hospital from 2012 to 2017. It’s a retrospective, descriptive, follow-up study. Result: 100% male, 7 patients with history of perianal surgery, 3 patients with immunodeficiency status, 7 patients with tuberculosis of another organ. Mean duration of illness is 16.5 months. 10 patients with complex anal fistula/abscess, 13 patients with surgical treatment. No patient with recurrence, 2 patients with postoperative incontinence, 2 patients were died by other causes (1 by multi-organs tuberculosis, 1 by leukemia). Conclusion: Ano-perianal tuberculosis is very rare extra-pulmonary tuberculosis, and could be associated with tuberculosis in other organs. Diagnosis confirmed often bases on postoperative histopathology and microbiology examination. Proctologists should be aware of patients with long-standing ano-perianal lesions or patients with other organs tuberculosis associated by ano-perianal diseases. The treatment includes: Anti-tuberculosis drugs as protocol and surgery.
