Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the efficacy of maintenance for improving the quality of laboratory tests through Sig sigma scale. Subject and method: Sigma metrics were calculated for serum ure, creatinin, triglyceride, ALT, GGT which have been complying ISO 15189:2012. The present study was conducted in two stages, the first stage was performed from 1st to 30th April 2020 for the baseline calculation, and the second was conducted in whole May 2020 with enhacing the mantenace solutions. The sigma metrics were calculated through 2 quality control (QC) samples (QC1 for low concentration, and QC 2 for high concentration) at each stage. Result: At the first stage, only sigma metrics of triglycerid were over 6 with 6.7 and 8.8. The others did not reach at Six sigma. After maintenaces, the sigma values of 2 tests were over 6 sigma including triglycerid and ALT in 2 QC samples which were 9.5, 9.1 and 6.2, 8.0, respectively. Mean while creatine 1 and GGT 2 were over 6 sigma after maintenance, and the sigma values of others were less than 6 sigma but slighly increased in comparation with the first stage (Ure 1: 2.5, ure 2: 2.5; creatinin 2: 4.2, GGT 1: 5.4). Conclusion: Sigma metrics increased after maintenance solutions. 4 tests have sigma values over 6 containing ALT, triglyceride, GGT and creatinine. Quality of biochemisty test was improved after maintenance through sigma scale.
