Recognition of stroke-related knowledge among patient's families: The reality and the improvement after health education

Abstract

Objective: To investigate stroke-related knowledge in a part of community residents and raise public awareness about stroke through a short educational program. Subject and method: This is a cross-sectional comparative descriptive study. A sample had trained through a short-term courses about stroke compared with another one hadn’t. Result: The sample of 84 respondents hadn’t trained stroke-related knowledge showed the lack of awareness, they listed 0.95 ± 0.74 rick factors of stroke by themself, 4.8% of them knew about FAST and only 25% thought about transfering stroke-patients to healthcare systems as soon as possible. While in the sample of 78 respondents had trained, the numbers were 4.24 ± 0.12, 97.4% and 94.9% respectively. Conclusion: The knowledge about stroke among community residents was low. Educational activities may raise awaness about stroke.
