Abstract

Objective: Assessment of the Disease Structure among Lao inpatients at the International Department, 108 Military Central Hospital, from January 2015 to January 2025. Subject and method: All medical records of Lao inpatients treated at the International Department of 108 Military Central Hospital from January 2015 to January 2025, stored in the hospital’s VIMES software system. Methods: A retrospective cross-sectional descriptive study based on data extracted from electronic medical records, conducted from January 2015 to January 2025 at the International Department, 108 Military Central Hospital. The disease structure was analyzed by the number and percentage of cases within the 10 main ICD-10 chapters and the 10 most common specific diseases. Result: From 2015 to 2025, a total of 1,313 Lao inpatients were treated. Males accounted for 60.9% and females for 39.1%. Diseases of the circulatory system represented the highest proportion (21.07%), with hypertension being the most common disease (170 cases). Diseases of the musculoskeletal system and connective tissue accounted for 16.33%, endocrine, nutritional, and metabolic diseases for 11.14%, and neoplasms were also common, ranking third with 13.86%. The four most common diseases were hypertension (170 patients), spinal degeneration (113 patients), diabetes mellitus (77 patients), and chronic hepatitis B and C (72 patients). Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) constituted the majority (94.8%), while communicable diseases accounted for only 5.2%. Conclusion: The disease structure among Lao inpatients at the International Department, 108 Military Central Hospital, was predominantly composed of non-communicable diseases. The most common disease chapters included circulatory system disorders, musculoskeletal and connective tissue diseases, neoplasms, and endocrine, nutritional, and metabolic disorders. The four most prevalent diseases were hypertension, spinal degeneration, diabetes mellitus, and chronic hepatitis B and C.
