Abstract
Objective: To provide a comprehensive structure of medical costs and analyze factors affecting the medical cost of first-year kidney transplant patients at Viet Duc University Hospital from May 2021 to May 2022. Subject and method: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 166 patients with health insurance after a kidney transplant at Viet Duc University Hospital. Result: The total cost for first-year kidney transplant treatment was 35,174,615,451 VND. Outpatient treatment costs were 33,435,604,544 VND, accounting for 95.06%. Of these, direct medical costs, non-medical direct and indirect costs accounted for 95.11%, 3.10% and 1.79%, respectively. Medical costs for complications requiring hospitalization varied for each type of complication. The number of complications and days of treatment were proportional to the cost of treatment. Conclusion: The average cost for kidney transplant patients in the first year of outpatient treatment is 192,983,219 VND, of which health insurance covers 87.28% of direct medical costs. Factors such as location, number of complications, type of complications and number of inpatient days all significantly affect the cost of treatment
