Abstract

Objective: Study to review clinical characteristics and factors affecting treatment outcomes; evaluate the long terms results of autologous cartilage grafting surgery to treat osteochondritis of the talus. Subject and method: Retrospective, uncontrolled study of 52 patients with grade III, IV OLTs according to Berndt and Harty classification, who underwent osteochondral autologous transplantaion using the Mosaic bone grafting method at the Department of Joint Surgery, 108 Military Central Hospital from January 1, 2015 to December 31, 2023. Result: The patients who underwent surgery had good results, with significant improvement in pain symptoms and ankle joint function compared to before surgery. The average age was 43.07 (±10.3) years old, the youngest was 22 years old, the oldest was 65 years old. There were 47 males and 05 females. The average follow-up time was 40.12 (±19.8) months. The average treatment day was 7 (±0.86). The average lesion diameter was 8.12 (±1.86) mm. The AOFAS score before surgery was 51 (±3.7), after surgery was 91.5 (±5.7); according to the Karlsson score before surgery was 48.6 (±4.3), after surgery was 86.1 (±2.7). Conclusion: Osteochondral autologous transplantaion surgery using Mosaic bone grafting technique to treat OLTs is an effective treatment method with good results in treating lesions at stages III and IV.
