Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of pain and functional improvement of shoulder joint in supraspinatus tendonitis treated by corticosteroid injection with ultrasound guidance. Subject and method: 54 supraspinatus tendonitis patients were selected basing on clinical characteristics and ultrasound in 108 Military Central Hospital. These patients were treated with corticosteroid injection with ultrasound guidance. Result: At time T0, the average VAS score was 6.49 ± 0.54; after 1 week of treatment (T1) the mean VAS score decreased to 2.19 ± 0.93 (p<0.001) and after 2 weeks of treatment (T2) the mean VAS score decreased to 0.37 ± 0.59 (p<0.001). The average abduction of shoulder was 127.19 ± 26.640 at the time point T0, then improving to 172.54 ± 11.060 and 180 ± 0o at T1 and T2, respectively (p<0.001). The improvement of EFA point from 10.47 ± 1.63 at T0 to 14.38 ± 1.43 at T1 (p<0.01) and 17.01 ± 1.21 at T2 (p<0.001). Conclusion: Corticosteroid injection under ultrasound guidance could improve the shoulder function and relieve of pain.
