Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the association of positive Human papillomavirus (HPV) tests and abnormal cervical cytology tests with risk factors in women examined at Hanoi Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital. Subject and method: Our study recruited over 1700 women ever having sexual intercourse. Participants had interviews, gynecological examined and cervical cancer screenings including HPV tests and cervical cytology at Hanoi Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital from 10/2016 to 07/2017. Result: Abnormal cervical cytology test of women living in rural areas was 2.33 times more than that of women living in urban areas, meanwhile HPV infection rate of rural group was only 0.51 times as much as urban group. Age of 40 - 49 had a 4.23-times increase in abnormal cervical cytology test compared with age of 20 - 29, age of 50 - 65 was 5.38 times. Women having more than 3 live births were 5 times and women having 2 live births were 2.7 times as likely to have abnormal cervical cytology tests as women never giving birth. The HPV infection rate of participants having more than 3 lifetime sexual partners were 6.9 times and having 2 lifetime sexual partners were 1.99 times as high as participants having 1 lifetime sexual partner. Conclusion: There was an association of positive HPV tests and abnormal cervical cytology tests with risk factors like living areas, age, number of sexual partner and times of giving birth. Prevalence of abnormal cervical cytology test was higher in women living in rural area, aged of 40 - 49 and 50 - 65, ever having given birth.
