Abstract

Objective: To describe adherence to essential care procedures for mothers and newborns during and after cesarean section. Subject and method: Births by caesarean section and heads of departments. Method: The epidemiological method described through the cross-sectional investigation. Result: 61.6% performed well the pre-operative preparation steps, 94.4% performed well in conducting essential care and monitoring complications reached 100%. The rate of good implementation of essential care procedures during and immediately after cesarean section at all steps accounted for 61.6%. Advantages in implementing essential care procedures: 7/7 in-depth interviews all said that facilities and equipment were adequate, medical staff were well-trained. Difficulties in implementing essential care procedures: Lack of essential care personnel in emergency surgery; restrictions on specialist care. Conclusion: It is necessary to strengthen close supervision in caesarean sections and send medical staff to attend capacity building training courses.
