Prevalence of Chlamydia trachomatis genital infection among women 18 - 49 aged in Hanoi

Abstract
Objective: To examine prevalence of Chlamydia trachomatis genital infection and some risk factors among women of reproductive age in Hanoi. Subject and method: 1176 married women aged 18 - 49 in Cau Giay and Dong Anh district were recruited to the study. Each participant had an interview and a gynecological examination including paraclinical tests. Result: Chlamydia trachomatis infection rate was 22.11%. 4.1% of participants used to be treated with Chlamydia trachomatis. Protective factors for Chlamydia trachomatis infections were: Older age of 40, living in urban areas, having high-school education or higher level of education, working as civil servants, having good practice of daily hygiene, menstrual hygiene and sexual health. Women with these factors had a statistically significant lower prevalence of Chlamydia trachomatis infection than women without these factors (p-value was less than 5%). Induced abortion was associated with Chlamydia trachomatis infection, meanwhile there were irrelevant factors such as using intrauterine devices, taking contraceptive drugs, used to giving birth. Conclusion: Prevalence of Chlamydia trachomatis infection among women of reproductive age in Cau Giay and Dong Anh district, Hanoi was 22.1%. Protective factors were: Older age of 40, living in urban areas, having high-school education or higher level of education, working as civil servants, having good practice of daily hygiene, menstrual hyginene and sexual health, not having history of induced abortion.
