Abstract

Objective: To determine the mortality prognostic value of the CURB-65 scale in hospitalized patients with COVID-19 pneumonia. Subject and method: Prospective study, longitudinal follow-up of 131 patients with COVID-19 pneumonia hospitalized at the COVID Treatment Center of Hospital 175, from July 17, 2021 to October 1, 2021. The CURB-65 score is used to assess the risk of death for hospitalized COVID-19 patients. Result: 131 hospitalized patients with COVID-19 pneumonia were studied, the mean age was 55.57 ± 14.6 years old. 60 male patients (45.8%); 71 female patients (54.2%). The mortality rate gradually increased according to the CURB–65 score (p<0.001). The CURB-65 score had a good predictor of mortality in hospitalized patients with COVID-19 pneumonia, with an area under the ROC curve of 0.86. The cut off point with the best predictive value for mortality was CURB–65 ≥ 2 points, with sensitivity 82%, specificity 83%, positive predictive value 66%, negative predictive value 92%. Conclusion: The CURB-65 is a simple and effective tool to assess the severity and prognosis in hospitalized patients with COVID-19 pneumonia.
