Abstract
Objective: To evaluate complications of endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) biliary stenting for patients suffering from malignant biliary obstruction. Subject and method: A prospective descriptive intervention study without control group, 88 inpatients suffering from malignant biliary obstruction who underwent ERCP biliary stenting at the Department of Gastroenterology, 108 Military Central Hospital from 10/2014 to 10/2018. Result: In 80 patients with successful stenting, the rate of early complication was 17.5%, the rate of acute cholangitis was 10.0%, without severe complications. 68 patients with longterm biliary drainage for palliation, the rate of late complication was 51.5%, the rate of stent disfunction was 42.6% and the rate of non-obstructive cholangitis was 19.1%. Conclusion: The rate of ERCP biliary stenting related complication was quite high, especially late complications, however most of them were mild or moderate.
