Clinical characteristics and prognosis of patients with idiopathic sudden hearing loss

Abstract
Objective: To describe clinical characteristics and prognostic factors of sudden hearing loss (SHL). Subject and method: A cross-sectional descriptive at intervention study was conducted on 177 patients diagnosed with SHL at 108 Military Central Hospital from 1/2019 to 12/2020. Selection of patients according to SHL diagnostic standards and treatment according to the same method. Result and conclusion: Male/female ratio ≈1, mean age 51.67 ± 14.79 years, the most affected group age was 41 - 60 years (51.3%), most patients were treated within 7 days since the onset of the disease (76.7%), the most common degree of hearing loss: Moderate hearing loss (40.2%), the most common audiogram: Flat type (41.9%), frequently met accompanied symptoms: Tinnitus (96.6%), ear fullness (49.6%), vertigo (14.5%), the recovery in the 21 - 30 year old group was the highest (76.9%), patients who treated within 7 days of onset had the best recovery result (45.9%), the higher rate of recovery met in group that has normal hearing in the contralateral ear (45.8%), group of profound SHL had poor recovery (25%).
