Abstract

Objective: To evaluate practice and related factors regarding prevention of surgical site infection at a hospital in Hai Dương, Vietnam. Subject and method: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted among 123 nurses who worked at 6 surgical wards at a hospital in Hai Duong from November 2020 to April 2021. A validated questionnaire was used to collect data. Result: The median age among nurses was 33 years of which the majority were female (73.2%). 51.2% of nurses had bachelor/post-graduate degrees. Only 35.8% nursers had good practice about surgical site infection prevention. Conclusion: 64.2% of nurses had inadequate practice about surgical site infection prevention. Continued education is required to increase knowledge which will in turn improve adherence to surgical site infection prevention practices.
