Abstract

Objective: To characterize of some cancers in veterans exposed to Dioxin and to evaluate rate of body damage caused by cancer. Subject and method: A retrospective study on 191 veterans exposed to Dioxin suffering from cancer through examination at Hanoi Medical Assessment Centre from January, 2016 to December, 2017. Result: 3.66% of patients had exposure time less than 1 year, 75.92% had exposure time ≥ 3 years. Lung cancer accounted for 45.02%, laryngeal cancer accounted for 15.18%, primary liver cancer accounted for 14.66%, prostate cancer accounted for 10.99%, non-hodgkin lymphoma accounted for 8.9%, other cancers were usually found in dioxin-exposed population were met. Disease stages 1, 2, 3 and 4 were 10.99%, 20.42%, 28.27% and 40.31%, respectively. 37.17% of cases were treated with a combination 2 or more methods. Other cases were treated with only one method: Radiation therapy, chemotherapy, or surgery. 12.56% were treated with radiofrequency ablation, embolization and targeted therapy. There were 98.96% of body damage from 61% or more, in which the rate of body damage from 71 - 80% accounted for the highest rate (43.23%), 20.94% of subjects were alive at 5 years. Conclusion: Veterans exposed to Dioxin suffer from Lung cancer accounts for 45.02%, laryngeal cancer accounted for 15.18%, primary liver cancer accounted for 14.66%, prostate cancer accounted for 10.99%, non-hodgkin lymphoma accounted for 8.9%, other cancers were usually found in dioxin-exposed population were met less. The cancers are often diagnosed at advanced stage, the survival time is quite short despite the combination of different treatment methods. The diseases severely affect the body
