Abstract

Objective: To survey the relevance of monitoring HbA1c and prescribing hypoglycemic drugs on outpatients with type 2 diabetes. Subject and method: Descriptive, retrospective study on the outpatient medical records of 284 patients with type 2 diabetes that received hypoglycemic drugs fully 12 months between December 2019 to November 2020. Result: The proportion of patients with inappropriate frequency of HbA1c testing in 6 months was 62.3%. DPP4 inhibitors, metformin, and sulfonylureas were the most commonly used classes of drugs. The most common diabetes treatment therapy was the one containing 2 or 3 oral drugs (29.6% and 42.6%). The rate of suitable conversion in patients not reaching the goal is 5.0% in the group of 18 to 64-year-old patients and 22.2% in the group of 65 years and older. Conclusion: Doctors should follow the recommendations for monitoring HbA1c and prescribing hypoglycemic drugs on outpatients with type 2 diabetes according to the guidelines.
