Abstract
Objective: To assess safety, feasibility and early results of using homemade glove-port in uniportal video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS) for mediastinal tumor. Subject and method: Research on prospective descriptive studies of cases of mediastinal (or cystic) tumors, treated with uniportal VATS surgery at Bach Mai Hospital, from June to October 2020 with homemade glove-port. Result: Including 10 patients (4 women), average age 48 years old; diagnosis with thymus adenomas (8), pericardial cysts (2). Average tumor size 3.5cm. The average length of the skin incision was 2.8cm. Average surgery time 80 minutes. The average draining time was 2.5 days. Average hospital stay 4.3 days. There were no complications during and after surgery. Conclusion: Single port VATS to treat mediastinal tumor with bi-lung ventilation + CO2 pump with a homemade glove-port is a safe, highly feasible technique that simplifies the procedure and reduce surgery costs, on selected subjects.
