Abstract

Objective: To study complication of nephrolithiasis in patients with gout and the association with clinical, paraclinical characteristics. Subject and method: This cross-sectional study was carried out on 120 gout patients were clinically examined, paraclinical tested, calculated 24-hour glomerular filtration rate and investigated renal morphology and nephrolithiasis by ultrasound. Result: 36 patients (30%) had renal lithiasis, 23 patients (19.1%) had abnormal renal morphology, 56 patients (46.7%) had low urine density; 90 patients (75%) had renal failure. Complication of nephrolithiasis had relations with time of gout, low urine density and renal function measured by creatinine clearance from 24 hour urine collection. Conclusion: The incidence of nephrolithiasis in patients with gout is quite high and had relations to time of gout, low urine density and kidney function.
