The initial results of radical cystectomy followed by the ileal orthotopic bladder replacement at 108 Military Central Hospital

Summary
Objective: To evaluate the inital results of radical cystectomy followed by the ileal orthotopic bladder subtitution. Subject and method: A desciptive study was performed on 17 patients with bladder cancer who underwent radical cystectomy followed by the ileal orthotopic bladder subtitution with Abol-Enein’s technique at 108 Military Central Hospital. Result: 16 males and 1 female; mean age 61.9 years. Mean operative time 327 mins, mean blood loss 447ml, intra- operative transfusion 23.5% (4 patients), post-operative transfusion 64.7% (11 patients). Mean hospital stay was 22 days, duration of urethral catheterization was 18.1 days. Post-operative complications: Urine leakage from neobladder was found in 11.7%, anastomosis leakage 5.8%, acute renal failure 11.7%. Daytime continence was in 88.2%, nighttime continence was in 67.4%. Conclusion: The inital results of radical cystectomy followed by the ileal orthotopic bladder substitution showed that it is a difficult procedure with severe complications; however most of patients was recovery and gradually adapted to the neobladder.
