Abstract

Summary

Objective: To investigate the sexual dimorphism and the differences with ages of palatal vault’s dimensions. Subject and method: Observations were obtained from 120 CBCT of normal individuals (60 males and 60 females); distributed in 3 age groups: Group I: < 15 years, Group II: 15-30 years, Group III: > 30 years. Palatal width, length and depth were measured. Result: Palatal width of groups I, II, III were 33.60 ± 2.81cm, 36.42 ±2.43cm, 36.93 ± 6.39cm, palatal length were 40.78 ± 4.68cm, 43.72 ± 3.58cm, 45.66 ± 4.71cm, palatal depth were 14.73 ± 3.87cm, 16.09 ± 3.30cm, 15.15 ± 3.74cm respectively. Conclusion: There were significant differences of palatal width, length between children and adult. Females are a statistically significant shorter palatal than males, while the sexual dimorphism in palatal depth and width is not significant.
