Abstract

Objective: To compare the efficacy between castellani versus eosin 2% application on lesion base in the combination with liquid nitrogen cryotherapy in the treatment of common warts in Hochiminh City of Dermatology and Venereology Hospital. Subject and method: We performed a case series on 52 patients in Hochiminh City Hospital of Dermatology and Venereology at the time of the study. 26 patients belonged to group 1 was treated with liquid nitrogen combined with topical castellani. Meanwhile, the remaining 26 patients who were included in group 2 and treated by combination of liquid nitrogen and topical eosin 2%. Result: In our studied sample, the sex ratio was equal and the majority (51.90%) of patients were in the 11 - 30 age group. In both 2 group, the mean number of warts was 2 and 30.77% lived with the disease for 3 - 6 months. 84.62% was new patients who had not received any treatment before. There was no statisticalgly significant difference in term of duration of blister formation after applying liquid nitrogen between 2 group at week 2 - 4 and 8. However, the crust of lesion in castellani group had fallen off much more rapidly than eosin was 2% group, which was statistically significant. Beside that, the healing time among castellani group shorter significantly than that of the eosin 2% treatment group. Conclusion: Castellani group had significantly shorter healing time compare to the Eosin 2% group, which mean castellani was more effective than eosin 2% in treating of common wart with prior liquid nitrogen cryotherapy.
