Expression of ISG20 in patients with HBV related hepatocellular carcinoma

Abstract
Objective: Interferon stimulated gene 20 (ISG20) has been shown to inhibit the replication of several viruses including hepatitis B virus (HBV) and to be associated with a number of malignancies such as cervical cancer, glioma and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Subject and method: 41 patients were diagnosed with HCC and treated with surgery. HCC tumor tissues and adjacent non-tumour liver tissues were collected to for RNA isolation. The expression levels of ISG20 mRNA were assessed by qRT-PCR method. Result: ISG20 mRNA expression was lower in tumor tissues compared to adjacent non-tumor liver tissues, but the difference was not statistically significant (p=0.22), ISG20 mRNA expression in tumor tissues which was associated with total bilirubin levels and was not significantly with AFP levels with p>0.05. Conclusion: No signficant difference expression of ISG20 was observed between tumour and non-tumor tissues. ISG20 expression was associated with clinicals expression of HCC patiens.
