Abstract

Summary


Objective: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of 1064nm QS Nd:YAG laser in the treatment of nevus of Ota at Ho Chi Minh City Hospital of Dermato-Venereology. Subject and method: A prospective clinical study of 100 patients treated with 1064nm QS Nd:YAG 1064nm laser. The treatment interval was ranging from 6 to 8 weeks. The investigator’s assessment of efficacy and safety was performed at each visit and 4 weeks after the final procedure. Result: Post-treatment lesion areas were statistically reduced in comparison with the baseline ones 8.50 (2.00 - 22.50) cm2 vs 20.00 (9.75 - 38.50) cm2, p<0.001). Among 59 patients completed at least 8 treatments, complete and excellent-good responses were 6.78% and 62.72%, respectively. None of these cases were refractory. Of the 1029 treatments, adverse effects were transient, including post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (1.45%), hypopigmentation (0.19%), prolonged erythema (0.49%) and no scarring. Conclusion: QS Nd:YAG 1064nm laser is an effective and safe treatment for nevus of Ota.
