Abstract

Summary

Objective: To evaluate the change of serum haptoglobin (Hp) level in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and the relationship with characteristics and stage of tumours. Subject and method: A prospective, cross-sectional descriptive study carried out on 77 patients with HCC in Digestive Department of 103 Military Hospital and the 108 Military Central Hospital. Serum Hp concentration was determined by immunoturbidimetric assays. Result: Serum Hp levels in patients with HCC was 1.05 ± 0.56 (g/L), no significantly higher than that in control group (1.08 ± 0.48g/L), p>0.05. There was a significant relationship between serum Hp levels and portal venous thrombosis and Barcelona staging classification. Conclusion: Serum Hp concentration was significantly associated with Barcelona staging classification in patients with HCC.
