Assessment of the cognition of medical staffs in term of medical wastes management at Thanh Nhan Hospital in 2020

Abstract
Objective: To assess the medical staff cognition of medical wastes in order to improve the cognition and practice in hospital. Subject and method: A cross-sectional study with the question survey of cognition and practice of healthcare staff in term of medical wastes. Result: The proper cognition of medical wastes: Doctor 14.1%; nurse 35.8%. The cognition of infectious wastes: Doctors 55.1%; nurses 82.8%, assistances 56.4% and sanitation workers 44.4%. The proper knowledge of hard medical wastes: Doctors 43.6%; nurses 80.1%. The proper cognition of medical wastes triage: Doctors 57.7%; nurses 83.4%; assistances 35.9% and sanitary staffs 44.4%. Infection control cognition: Doctors 79.5%; nurses 93.4%. The proper knowledge of shaped injury prevention: Doctors 41.0%; nurse 76.2%. Knowledge of the process of handling injuries caused by sharp objects, the doctor had the right understanding 69.2% and nursing was 78.8%. Conclusion: The cognition of medical wastes management was not high. It is necessary to conduct more training course for medical staffs in this field.
