Abstract
Objective: To identify the anatomical characteristics of the temporal branches of the facial nerve in the parotid gland in Vietnamese adults. Subject and method: 12 hemi-faces (right: 7, left: 5) of Vietnamese cadavers (average age: 74.17 ± 12.23: 52 - 88 years; 8 men and 4 women). Research method: Cross-sectional description with analysis. Result and conclusion: Most temporal branches of the facial nerve were in the parotid gland (81.8%), 18.2% of cases were behind the parotid gland. The length of the temporal branches of the facial nerve in the parotid gland was 8.88 ± 3.55mm (4.62mm to 16.96mm). The distance from the division of the facial nerve into the frontal branch and the supra- orbital branch to the (d) line [passing the lateral orbital rim and root of the helix of the ear] and to the (d2) line [passing the lateral orbital rim and tragation on the outer ear] were 36.06 ± 7.50mm (19.26 - 45.34mm) and 21.94 ± 6.28mm (11.52- 37.20mm).
