Abstract

Objective: Study on consumption of carbapenem antibiotics in 108 Military Central Hospital from 2015 to 2017. Orientation for the carbapenem group management program for the hospital. Subject and method: The number of carbapenem antibiotic were used in clinical departments that belong to the 108 Military Central Hospital from 2015 to 2017, statistic on number of patient-days of internal patients. Result: The consumption of carbapenem antibiotic from 2015 to 2017 was increased and the number DDD/100 patient-days in 2017 increased 2.3 times compared to 2015. Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and Department of Airborne Infectious Diseases and Intensive Care were the two largest consuming units of carbapenem with DDD/100 patient-days in the ICU was 27.24 and Department of Airborne Infectious Diseases and Intensive Care was 15.44. A significant increase in meropenem and ertapenem consumption was observed but no such trend was seen for imipenem. Conclusion: This study may be a contribution to strict antibiotic management, and the carbapenem use in particular, in order to reduce antimicrobial resistance.
