Abstract

Objective: To assess of knowledge, attitude, and practice of oral care is an indication of the effectiveness of the applied dental education programs. Subject and method: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 827 students at Bong Son Secondary School from October to November 2019. Data were collected using a pretested questionnaire about knowledge, attitude, practice toward oral hygiene on 827 selected students. The data were entered into Epi-Info version 3.1 and cleaned and analyzed using SPSS version 20. Result: A total of 827 patients participated in the study; among whom 436 (52.7%) were male students. The study revealed that 516 (62.4%) of the respondents had good knowledge with regard to oral hygiene, but only 328 students (39.7%) had positive attitude toward oral hygiene, and their oral hygiene practices were still low that 353 (43.7%) of the students had good oral hygiene practice. Conclusion: The study showed that more than half of the respondents had good knowledge toward oral hygiene to maintain proper oral health, but their attitudes and practices toward oral hygiene were remain poor. Etablishment of oral health education programs in the school curriculum combined with the care of parents and teachers will help students have a solid knowledge base of oral health care, attitude to take care of their teeth and practice proper oral care from an early age.
