Abstract

Summary

Objective: To remark some complications of veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation in cardiogenic shock patients due to acute myocarditis. Subject and method: A prospective study in acute myocarditis patients complicated cardiogenic shock were supported VA ECMO in Intensive Care Unit, Bach Mai Hospital from 2014 to 2018. The complications of bleeding, acute kidney injury, femoral artery thrombosis, the infection of ECMO cannula site and central nervous system were recorded during VA ECMO. Result: The most complication of bleeding cannula ECMO was 33 cases (61.5%), the rate of acute kidney injury, femoral artery thrombosis at ECMO discontinuation, the infection of ECMO cannula site were, 23 cases (42.5%), 12 cases (25.5%), respectively and 01 case of ischemic stroke. Conclusion: The complications of ECMO were cannula ECMO site bleeding, acute kidney injury and femoral artery thrombosis.

Keywords: Veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, acute myocarditis, cardiogenic shock.
