Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the efficacy on intraocular pressure (IOP) lowering of trabeculectomy combined with 5-fluorouracil application in recurrent glaucoma eyes and glaucoma in young patients. Subject and method: Eyes had a history of glaucoma surgery or were in young patients aged 15 - 40 years, which would be trabeculectomied, were included in the study. The trabeculectomy combined 5-FU 5mg/ml application on the sclera flap during 5 minutes and then washed out. The IOP, vision acuity, bleb form were records before and after operation 1 month, 3 months, 6 months and 24 months. Result: Bleb in 81.82% of cases were well formed, good bleb in the recurrent glaucoma group was 69.23%, much lower than that in the young group (87.10%). Mean IOP after 6 months (19.28 ± 2.25mmHg) and after 24 months (19.17 ± 1.9) were lower than before surgery (31.36 ± 4.42) (p<0.05). Other signs such as vision acuity, the perimetry and the optic disk were almost unchanged. The most common complications are corneal epithelial lesions. Conclusion: Trabeculectomy combined with 5-fluorouracil surgery is effective in the treatment of glaucoma, less complications.
